Alpha Foods Co. History

Alpha Foods Co. was founded by George A. Sarandos and his wife Athena in 1984.

George opened the first independent pizzeria in the city of Houston in April of 1960. His inspiration came from his enjoyment of eating delicious pizza while serving in the U.S. Army in Europe.

Over many years of adhering to his strict work ethics, his drive to succeed and commitment to serving excellent quality products, George’s little independent pizzeria eventually evolved into Alpha Foods Co.

George and his wife, Athena, began Alpha Foods Co. as a full line foodservice distribution company servicing Italian restaurants and mom and pop pizzerias. They eventually created a unique pizza component kit that enabled Alpha’s customers to have a simple and convenient way to prepare superior quality pizzas. As the demand for prepared pizzas grew, Alpha Foods Co. expanded its product lines to include pre-topped frozen pizzas.

To support new product growth and improve automation, increase production efficiencies, and accommodate the demand, in March of 2010, Alpha Foods Co. designed and built a 115,000 sq. ft. a state-of-the-art USDA pizza manufacturing plant located just Northwest of Houston in Waller, Texas

Today, Alpha Foods Co. manufactures a wide variety of delicious pizzas for school districts, U.S. military establishments, national retail grocery store chains and C-stores throughout the country. Alpha Foods Co.’s pizzas are stocked and available through national distribution channels and on a direct basis.

For the past 40 years, George and Athena have been joined by their adult children, Maria and Danny Bowen, Jeanie and Bryan Anderson and Arist and Shay Sarandos who comprise the balance of the corporate officers’ team at Alpha Foods Co. The Alpha family is committed to providing quality pizzas and excellent customer service to their valued customers.
